Several people have asked me about the gear I use to take my photos, so here's a mini gear review of my present and retired kit.
Present Kit
Canon EOS R Mirrorless Digital Camera
I love this camera!
It's mirrorless, which amongst other things means it has an electronic viewfinder. This displays all the information you need right where you need it and provides visual exposure reference on the fly, amazing. It’s also great for video making it a really versatile travelling companion.

Canon EF-S 10-18mm f4.5-5.6 IS STM
Although this is a crop sensor lens it is perfect for vlogging on the EOS R, the crop make little difference for video and it short and lightweight to boot.

Canon RF 24-105mm f4L IS USM
Arguably the best kit lens Canon has produced. It’s a great all round lens for anything from dreamy landscapes to beautiful portraits.

Canon EF 100-400mm f4.5-5.6 L IS II USM
I spend more time with this lens than any of my others, great for wildlife photography and it’s surprisingly good for close up near macro.

Canon EF 100mm f/2.8L Macro IS USM
I have this lens for closeup and macro photography but it’s also a great lens for portraits. I have been interested in macro photography for a while but lockdown really spurred me to practice it more, it’s a skill I hope to develop further over the coming months.

EX470AI Speedlite
Flash isn’t something I’ve used often so this is a recent addition, it’s a smart piece of kit that helps me out with those awkward lighting scenarios.

Lowepro ProTactic BP 450 AW II Backpack
I took ages deciding which bag would be most suitable for my needs and it’s not an easy decision, there’s a huge array of great products available.
This has been with me all around Australia, New Zealand and the UK. It’s big enough for all my current kit and even fully loaded it’s really comfortable, It’s fantastic.

Manfrotto MT055CXPRO4
A great quality robust tripod!
I've had several tripods over the years, but I always went the cheap and cheerful route and found them to be less than ideal which ultimately meant I often left them behind.
This Manfrotto is a pleasure to use and provides a really stable platform while being light enough not to break my back. It's tall enough for eye level shots, but folds up small enough for a medium sized suitcase if you're travelling. That being said it's not a travel tripod, but it suits my needs.

Retired Kit
Canon EOS 60D Digital SLR Camera
I used this successfully for many years and loved it, my wife still uses it and it still takes amazing photos.

EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS
This was the kit lens for the 60D, not the greatest of lens but light weight and the image stabilisation makes it an effective base lens.

Canon EF-S 55-250mm f/4-5.6 IS STM Lens
A good crop sensor lens for mid range focal lengths, I took some good wildlife shots with this and like the 100-400mm it’ll do focus down to about a metre for close ups.
